October is Breast Cancer Awareness month

I know that I am a woman but I honestly never TRULY thought about breast cancer until recently. It wasn't until one of my life long friends told me that her mother has breast cancer. Her mother, who has always been like a second mother to me. Her mother, who has always been my friend. Her mother has breast cancer....





I love them both very much. I love their entire family very much. Here is a reason to run again.

Look what I just pulled from the garden! Three and a half bags full of ripe tomatoes, a bag of bell peppers, our last cucumber, a squash and my three butternut squash. We still have beets, jalapenos and all of Eric's other peppers to pick. I am going to miss the garden over the winter. It has been fun!

I dont know if I know that many people with blogs but I'll give it a whirl. 

1. I hardly ever wear socks with any of my shoes. And since I ride my bike a lot and am running around at work by the end of the day my feet could kill someone they smell so awful!

2. I dont have to shave my armpits. I grow one hair in my left arm that is easily plucked away. I dont know what I would do if I suddenly had to shave there. 

3. I have a crazy fear of mold and expired food. Going to the grocery store bugs Eric because of how crazy I can get. Check the expiration date, feel it, look at it, smell it... If its too close to the expiration date then I say no and feel like gagging even picking it up. If its been sitting in our cupboard or fridge for what I perceive to be too long I toss it or never eat it again. 

4. I dont have my high school diploma. Shame. It makes me feel inferior. It keeps me from getting awesome jobs and going to school. I was just a huge slacker and dropped out my SENIOR year. And now its 8 years later and I am still a slacker. But the good news is that I finally went and talked to someone that can help me get my high school diploma. He said that I could easily get my GED but I REALLY want that HS diploma. So I am doing packets and bustin my butt the best that I can so that I can finally get it over with. I am getting so close. 

5. Right along with number 4 I dont have my drivers license either. I have never had it. I have had my permit twice before. I aced the written part but failed both driving tests. They say third time is a charm and I think it might be. I have my permit and Eric and Andrea have been helping to get COMFORTABLE driving. And I know that I will have that soon too.  YAY!

6. I love Audrey Hepburn. She is the epitome of grace, elegance, beauty, intelligence, kindness and humor. I dont remember when I first knew about her but I do know that for as long as I can remember I have admired and looked up to her. The best compliments that I can remember are when I have been compared to her. 

7. When I see baby animals I turn to mush. I gush over them more than I do adorable babies and kids (except for Sky and Solee of course). You will often hear me say something stupid or silly when I see a baby kitten or duck. I think they are the cutest!

WELL, my sister Andrea moved back home to Utah from Dallas, TX. She is our new roommate. Yay! Our roommate Alan has a crush on her and wants to date her. HA. She is beautiful and awesome so I get it. They are buddies now.

My good friend Rachel had a small, girl dinner party for Andrea's homecoming. She even baked a delicious vegan cake. I introduced Andrea to my work friends at a party. We all had fun. I look terrible in that picture of all of us but oh well. Andrea is getting use to riding a bike everywhere. She looks so cute riding my Schwinn.  She got hired at my work. She will be working in the cafe. Today was her first day. I am so excited that she is finally home.  

Oh and look what Eric made! He made us a bike cart. We use it to ride to the grocery store. He is so awesome!

a short update

There is lots of wildlife in our neck of the woods. Our garden is out of control. It's HUGE! We have tons of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash and beets. I have been doing some painting lately. The last picture is suppose to be a self portrait. I am sure that it will change. My little sister Andrea is moving back here from Texas. She is going to be our new roommate. She will be here this Thursday. YAY! My little brother got married in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator this past weekend. It was awesome to see him. Things are good.

NO MORE PLASTIC BAGS!

Please go to the above link to read about how awful plastic bags are to our planet's animals and to the world that we call our home. I would love to live a more green life. I do ride my bike everywhere and we do recycle. Sometimes it doesnt seem like enough. I would hate it if Sky and Solee had to see polar bears and Bengal tigers go extinct in their lifetime because of how we have all treated our world.

I just read the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy and it was about a father and son in a post apocalyptic world. It was amazing and it has haunted me since I read it. Its made me think a lot more about my life and what I have and have not done with it. I know that I want to protect those that I love from ever having to see our world die, animals become extinct and a never ending cold.


With that being said I really need to make some changes in my life. It will absolutely not be easy but I know that I can do it. I have done and survived a LOT of hard things in my life. I just need to believe in myself and my ability to change the life that I am living right now. Because honestly, I have no other choice but to change, to help change the world and the future for Sky and Solee as well as everyone else that I love.

I am a sucker for Harry Potter

I just finished reading book 4 in the Harry Potter series. It is so good! I just couldnt stop reading it. I bought the 5th book yesterday because I knew that I would finish the 4th soon. You know I enjoy the movies but man do I LOVE the books. I am completely sucked in.

Some times I'm glad that I work in a bookstore. And I feel so happy that I was able to work the Harry Potter 7 release party last year. It was such a huge event. There were people crying and screaming with excitement. It was awesome! And I got to be a part of it. I think that night is what got me really interested in reading the books.


Anyway, I am off to start Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. YAY!

For Steve

My dear friend Steve and his fabulous wife McCall have always encouraged me to paint more. It's pretty awesome to have friends that believe in me and my art like they do. So for Steve I'll post one of my baby paintings from earlier this summer. No, it's not a painting of a baby, it's a small painting.

Oh yeah

I got hit by a car this week. I was on my way to work. It was about 8:30 am. There is an intersection at the mall where I almost always get hit. I decided to start wearing my helmet because of how often I almost become road kill on my way to work.

So I was riding along and it was nice because that early over by the mall there is no traffic. When I pulled up to that particular stupid intersection there was a black car sitting on the crosswalk waiting to turn. It was a black car with a stupid jock guy in the driver seat. You know backwards hat, dark sunglasses, one hand on the wheel.

Anyway, he had his window down and I told him that I was going to go around him. He gave me an annoyed look. Then I went. I was almost to the other side when he hit my bike tire and I fell over. He sped off around me. I screamed obscenities to him. You cant see the full scope of my huge hot pink bag in this picture. But it's pretty much nuclear. So he obviously did it on purpose.

Luckily for me I got his license plate number. I called the cops. The police officer seemed pretty upset about it too. She said it was clear hit and run. So they are trying to track him down. I haven't heard anything back yet though.

Oh, and what was also lame about it all was that there was a woman walking across the street that saw what happened and she just kept on walking. No one cares about each other anymore.

I've been afraid to ride my bike since then. I have ridden it but I dont enjoy it as much.

Summer time update

I love having a garden. It makes me happy.

For love of the garden

I love having a garden. It has gotten so big. Its actually about five times bigger than that last picture. It's so weird. Eric and I will both stand outside and just look at it. We are already planning our set up for next year. This was our first try and it's current setup is kind of off. Its a learning process though. And I think that we have done pretty good so far. Next year our garden will be better.
